Ray is my friend. He could be my dad, but still my friend. He was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer in September of 2017. They gave him 4 months to live with no treatment, and maybe 6-9 months with treatment. He's still kickin'. I've watched he and his sweet wife Bonnie fight this beast with strength and quiet dignity. They wait knowing Ray's life is in God's hands. I've watched them use humor (ask him how he is and he'll tell you he's half dead), prayer (the secret weapon of choice), and as many options as possible to extend the time they have together. I continue to marvel at the grace these two show in the face of such a nasty disease. I've felt rather helpless watching. Sure I give hugs and send cards and say a zillion prayers, but really what can any of the rest of us do?
I happened to peak at the Lincoln Half Marathon page because I've always wanted to run that race. But I just finished a half marathon just over a week ago....But when I saw the charity for the race, a lightbulb went on. Project Purple is a charity to raise money and awareness for Pancreatic Cancer. THIS is something I can do! So I'm going to run 13.1 miles for my friend Ray. It's the least I can do for him. Will you help me? I need to raise money for Project Purple in order to run the race. All money raised goes to Project Purple to raise awareness, complete research and improve the lives of those fighting pancreatic cancer.
