I am running the San Francisco Marathon on July 28, 2019. As some of you may know, I work as a health psychologist and the vast majority of my patients have physical disabilities and/or chronic pain that prevents them from engaging in life the way they previously did. These patients were my motivation to sign up to run a marathon. I feel it is important to live life to the fullest and I want to take advantage of what I am currently physically able to do. I had originally intended to raise money for chronic pain research as developing and implementing psychological interventions for patients with chronic pain is my passion. However, with more and more disturbing occurrences in our country, I have realized that my primary passion and reason for running are actually to fight for human rights and equality more broadly. So, I run for those who are not physically able. For women who are deprived the ability to make decisions about their own bodies. For every human being to have the right to get married. For children running from danger that are torn away from their families. For those who've been killed because of the color of their skin. For all human beings to be considered equal, regardless of race, gender, culture, religion, sexuality, age, or disability status. For freedom. Please support me in my mission to run for human rights by donating to the American Civil Liberties Union.
