My mom was diagnosed with breast cancer when I was in my early 20s and she was in her early 50s. She underwent a full mastectomy, but the cancer had already spread. She was given a 30% chance of making it 10 more years. She was put on a new chemotherapy and cancer drug regiment. She fought for those years and survived!
My mom watched 7 grandchildren come into the world during those 10 years. She made new friends, and supported others fighting cancer. She lived a good life.
Eventually, the cancer did return, however, attacking her bone, liver and lungs. My mom passed away on June 19, 2017.
The goal of this team is to raise funds for breast cancer research and prevention in honor of my mother, who without the treatment she received, would not have had those last 10 years that I know she treasured.
Funds raised will go to top cancer charity organizations, like the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (www.bcrf.org) that received an A rating by charity watch. Consider joining the team and running for this cause.
