I completed the CIM! The ruck was heavy and my time was not quite where I wanted it, but I made it to the end.

My mother, Ruth Ann Tolle, passed away last year (03/11/17) after a short battle with Large B-cell Lymphoma. In her honor, and to acknowledge the 25th anniversary of my enlistment in the US Army (03/12/93), I have decided to ruck march the California International Marathon on December 2, 2018. The date of the race is also my mother’s birthday, when she would have turned 79. I will carry a ruck weighing 50 pounds and wear my old uniform to honor those who are serving or have served. Barring injury or cardiac event, I plan to complete the marathon in no more than 8 ½ hours, which was the Army standard of 3.1 mph when I served. However, I’m training to maintain the current Army standard for 4 mph for the entire marathon.
I know others who are battling lymphoma/leukemia and other cancers, or who have lost loved ones to these diseases. I thought this would be a good way to challenge myself and support the effort for a cure to cancer.
Finally, I will be carrying a picture of my mother with me. If you have lost a loved one to leukemia or lymphoma and would like me to carry their picture as well, please see my website on how to contact me (www.stevenatolle.com/cim).
