OUR Foundation is about to support OUR employee running 26.2 mile! We are excited for the events to come!
Who we are
The RSM Boston Foundation is a tax-exempt, public charity that aligns with the four national Foundation goals but also allows us to support the causes our Boston office employees are passionate about. Our Foundation inspires staff to become involved, make a difference, give back to their communities and the causes they care about; and, in doing so, to support one another and build a stronger Boston.
The RSM Boston Foundation is managed, funded and staffed by Boston firm employees who elect to support charitable organizations and social causes that are important to them. Through the work of our Foundation, our people are afforded a unique opportunity to work as a team, to share their time and support the Boston communities in which they live and work.
Through our Birdies Fore Love program, we have helped over 1,000 youth in Charlestown. Most recently impacting a specific range of children to help them catch up on their literacy skills.
With the funding from RSM Boston Foundation, the Institute has outlined a program that will impact 30 students this year.
§ Students at The Harvard Kent are taking the MAP test, a benchmark and progress monitoring assessment that measures reading abilities. Once all data is in, personnel from the SAiL Literacy Lab will analyze the data to determine which students are at risk for reading difficulties.
§ Students identified as at-risk will be given further assessments by trained graduate assistants to identify strengths and weaknesses and ensure that any potential intervention will match their needs.
§ The program will focus on enhancing children’s skills in word decoding, vocabulary, grammar, and understanding text. The after-school program will include a word decoding activities (e.g., learn sound to letter correspondences) and language enrichment activities (e.g., learn about earth materials, explore new vocabulary, read short texts, participate in a related extracurricular activity).
§ The MAP and program-specific progress monitoring tools will be used to determine whether children achieve expected outcomes at the end of each intervention phase.
Why we do what we do
Students who do not read proficiently by the 3rd grade are four times more likely to drop out of school. This program will have a lasting impact on the children identified and has aspirations to be brought to every school in Boston.
