1. Do I need to erg a certain distance to be eligible for the participation drawing?
No. Because distances logged on the erg are self-reported, they are not connected to the participation drawing.
2. How Do I Track and Submit the Distance I/We row?
If you or your team are participating in the Concept2 Virtual Team challenge in January, 2019, we will be able to pull your distance on the erg off the Concept2 public website. If you are not participating in the Concept2 Virtual Team Challenge, we are asking that you keep a record of your estimated distance on the erg and submit it to your team captain. We are asking team captains to submit distances to us, and we will update the Row4Cancer website to see how far we’ve rowed against our 40,000 kilometer goal in January.
3. How can donors contribute to support my participation in Row4Cancer?
Donations can be made by credit card on-line at www.crowdrise.com/row4cancer
on your Row4Cancer participation page. You can also accept a donation by check if the check is made out to Dana Farber Cancer Institute. To count towards your $100 fundraising goal for automatic entry into the participation drawing, the donation must be made online before January 31, 2019 at 11:00pm. For any check contributions you receive to count toward your $100 fundraising goal for automatic entry into the participation drawing, you must mail the check, along with a cover page clearly identifying the Row4Cancer participant to whose fundraising total the check should be credited to: Row4Cancer at P.O. Box 870209, Milton Village MA 02187 postmarked no later than 11 PM January 31, 2019.
Cash contributions cannot be accepted.
4. Are donations tax deductible?
Yes. Contributions are tax deductible. Dana Farber Cancer Institute will mail the donor a contribution acknowledgement for any donation of $15.00 or more.
5. How much of the money raised goes to Dana Farber Cancer Institute?
If you donate by check, 100% of the contribution goes to Dana Farber. If you donate on-line using a credit card, Crowdrise applies a credit card fee and a platform usage fee that you will see when you checkout on-line. Credit card donors will have the option to submit 100% of their donation to Dana Farber if they elect to pay the credit card and platform fees (approximately 8%) when they are checking out. PLEASE NOTE: There are no other costs associated with Row4Cancer as the prizes are all donated.
6. How does Dana Farber use the money that gets raised?
The money raised is for cancer research efforts. Please go to www.dana-farber.org and click on “Our Research” in the red box on the top right of the page to learn more about Dana Farber’s far-reaching research efforts.
7. How do I/my team become eligible for a chance at a prize/award?
Every Row4Cancer registered participant who raises $100 or more for cancer research at Dana Farber will receive an automatic entry in the participation drawing for their team, club or school. Each Row4Cancer team will identify on its team page its designated club, team or school and there is a box on the participant registration form for you to identify your team, club or school.
8. Can I/My team win more than 1 prize?
No. Once a club, team or school’s name is drawn and it wins a prize, that club, team or school is no longer eligible for any remaining prizes. The Grand Prize will be awarded first, followed by the two First Prizes and finally the Second Prize.
9. How does my team or club collect a prize if we win?
Row4Cancer will contact the winners shortly after the drawing. Shipping within the Continental U.S. is included in the prize. Timing for prize delivery will vary; for example, the Concept2 oars are custom made, so delivery timing will depend upon the order and will be as mutually agreed to by the winner and Concept2. See Participation Rules for details.
10. Do I have to sign a waiver to participate?
Yes, every rower (registered participant) must sign the waiver and agree to the participation drawing rules found within the registration section of the Row4Cancer website.
11. How Do I start a team?
Go to www.crowdrise.com/row4cancer.
Please refer to the “Team Captain Guide” to help you get started! If you don’t have a “Team Captain Guide” and want a copy, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
12. How many people/rowers can be on my team?
A team can be as small as just 2 people or any number higher than that! The size of your team is up to you! The more rowers you have who raise $100 or more for cancer research, the more automatic entries your team will have towards the participation drawing.
13. Are there any age restrictions to register?
Row4Cancer is open to all ages, but you must register to participate and sign the required waiver or your registration will not be complete. For participants under 18 years of age, the required waiver must be completed by a parent or guardian. At this time, Row4Cancer is only able to allow participants who are located in the United States.
14. How do I fundraise?
When you register to participate in Row4Cancer you will automatically receive an email from email@example.com that provides fundraising recommendations on how to fundraise. We have created tools to help you and your team members fundraise that we can send you if you email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
15. How can I create/raise interest in my own community, school or hometown?
Row4Cancer has created a sample article for rowing club/team newsletters and a press release that can be sent to your local newspaper or school newspaper to publicize your participation and help with fundraising. Each team captain will automatically receive an email from email@example.com when he/she creates a team with these materials attached, called “Publicity article” and “Non-Rower Press Release.” Both articles have blank places to insert information about your local club or team. Complete and submit it to your own local newspaper, your team’s online/electronic newsletter or use in your school’s weekly emails, assemblies, announcements or newspapers. If you can’t find your copy, please email firstname.lastname@example.org and we’d be happy to send you another copy.
