Social Distancing Means Cancelled Fundraisers and Lost Revenue for The Rookery at Gustavus' Preschool & Child Care Programs
If we can raise at least $1,000 in this fundraiser, GoFundMe Charity will issue us a $1,000 matching grant to help alleviate our financial burdens during these uncertain times.
On March 16, we closed our program doors to help flatten the COVID-19 curve, and we're not sure when we'll reopen. Most of our staff is receiving unemployment, and thanks to the federal stimulus it seems they are covered for now - thank goodness! Also thankfully, we have funding leftover from the big grant we received this year to continue operating the necessary aspects of our organization throughout our closure.
Lost Fundraising Revenue
While we are still planning to move forward with our Plant Sale (click here!), we expect lost fundraising income in the amount of about $8,500 (half of what we expect for a whole year) since we're likely going to miss out on our annual Bluegrass Festival, Health Fair Burrito Sales, 4th of July Halibut Dinner, 4th of July Auction, and Bear Track Wine Tasting.
Lost Tuition Revenue
Our full-time chid care program normally operates 52.5 hours per week all summer long, generating the bulk of our annual program income for the year. Even if we do open for the summer, we will likely need to minimize the hours available to parents and we will likely have significantly decreased attendance (and thus tuition) as we don't expect as high a need since there likely will not as much work for the parents who would normally use child care to work summer jobs.
