Education can impair a poverty cycle. Education creates understanding, dissolves barriers, brings people together, and inspires ideas and change. You can make an impact on many lives by supporting our effort to create a Learning / Technology center in Alma Vii, Romania.
Tucked in the hills of rural Transylvania, Alma Vii is an isolated but gorgeous 700 year old village of about 350 people. The Learning Center will provide a gathering place for children and adults to engage in technology and learning while deepening relationships. We have a building and need funds to pay for a part time teacher and monthly utilities (~$4,000 per year for a two year commitment), as well as purchase computers, furniture, books, games, art supplies, and a digital piano keyboard for music education.
Our family has been living in Alma Vii, Romania volunteering with the Mihai Eminescu Trust (MET). We are partnering with a Romanian company to provide remote coding classes and with an American company to provide English learning software. The Learning Center will host English classes, art classes by a local artist, homework tutors, music lessons and other things of community interest. We will encourage a love of reading with storytime for young children and book groups for teens. After we leave, the project will continue with the involvement of MET, and based on the success we measure early in the project, it will serve as the model for many other village implementations with MET.

PS - For high level MET donors we are exploring family service trips to Alma Vii. Your family could stay in a traditional Saxon home, enjoy delicious meals prepared by villagers, and work in the Learning Center. Your family can help with a variety of classes (art, music, science, English), play games with the children, host a movie night or come up with your own ideas. The village has wonderful walking trails and it is an excellent spot to relax and unplug. Let us know if you are interested and we can build out this idea together.
