The Rockhouse Foundation needs your help with current fundraising campaign underwriting our 2021 programs and projects. The cumulative effects of the COVID pandemic has created pervasive hardship for even the most resilient members of our extended Rockhouse Foundation family. Sadly, we have not been able to hold our regular annual fundraising events. We are establishing this platform as the primary source for underwriting our activities for 2021. The funds raised will be focused on four key objectives:
Families continue to need help putting food on their tables and navigating their children’s disrupted education. In Jamaica, 50% of workers derive income related to the hospitality industry, but after the island wide shut down the recovery has been very slow. Families continue to suffer. In March we began weekly food distributions, delivering staples to those most impacted, and have been maintaining sustenance for over 1000 people. The need for food security remains critical in our partner school communities and we are committed to underwriting this food security program throughout the pandemic.
ONLINE AND IN-PERSON LEARNING SUPPORT
While all Rockhouse Foundation’s partner schools are engaged in online learning, we are helping prepare them for in-person learning, currently expected to resume in January. Each school has its own unique needs, but all require modification beyond the Ministry of Education’s resources and Rockhouse Foundation is steadfast in its commitment to fill the breach. We are supporting the ongoing education and development of the children at each of the partner schools.
SAV INCLUSIVE DEVELOPMENT
In 2017 the Foundation conceived of and built from the ground up Jamaica's first public mixed ability, full-inclusion model pre-K, where typical learners and children with a wide range of special needs are taught side-by-side in the same classroom. Currently with over 130 children enrolled, the Foundation is fully committed to expanding the school through primary and high school, constructing both campuses adjacent to the early childhood school. Over the past summer we took the first steps toward development of the new primary school so our graduating 5 year olds could move into 1st Grade. Next summer will require further expansion to include the 2nd Grade.
ONGOING SUPPORT FOR PARTNER SCHOOLS INCLUDING MAINTENANCE
The Foundation supports our partner schools with ongoing programming. Even during COVID we continue to support safe speech and physical therapy sessions at Sav Inclusive for our special needs children. Schools have been closed since March but, like all structures, they require ongoing and periodic major maintenance, especially after an extended period not in use. We anticipate significant repairs and restoration at each location throughout the upcoming year as a return to in-person learning is phased in.
Rockhouse Foundation is a U.S.-based 501(c)(3) charity, also registered as a charity in Jamaica, that has been transforming schools in and around Negril, Jamaica since 2004. The Foundation has built, expanded and renovated seven schools and the Negril Public Library and invested over US$6 million in its projects and programs.
In Jamaica we leverage your dollars by cost effective implementation. Our projects would cost many times more in the USA. With all administrative and fundraising expenses underwritten by the Rockhouse, Skylark, Miss Lily’s and the ownership, every donated dollar goes directly to our projects and programs. With us on the ground to manage and administer the projects and programs you can be sure the children of Jamaica get the most from your donation.
