Funds from this campaign will be paid to restaurants who will collaborate with volunteers to serve people who need an extra meal.
Two birds with one stone. Volunteers cook daily meals for anyone who needs it. With COVID-19, not all of the groups have been able to keep volunteering. Restaurants are also struggling with the required closures, so the volunteer meal providers at the East 4th Rest Stop are asking for your help.
You can support local businesses by helping to keep restaurant doors open. We will share the stories of the restaurants who join this effort to keep people employed and fed in our region during this difficult worldwide crisis.
We have each other and can show what a true hospitality town can do to come together and be self-sufficient so that everyone is in better shape on the other side of this emergency.
Even meal providers that are able to continue cooking and serving are having more difficulty getting and sharing ingredients, so it only makes sense for us to partner with restaurants to bring healthy food to those struggling during the stay-at-home order.
For over 12 years, volunteers have come together to serve daily meals. The groups who currently provide meals are:
Feeding Reno, The Sunday Crusaders, Bring It Home Charities, We Care Volunteers (with support from the Unitarian Universalists and the Verdi Posse), Loka Cares, TriNet Cares, Monday Meals Reno, St. Anthony Greek Orthodox Church, The Serving Point, The Reno Initiative for Shelter and Equality (RISE), Sikh Sewa Society, and the Salvation Army has stepped up to help during COVID-19.
Many of our volunteers are in groups vulnerable to COVID-19 and we want to maintain their work until it is safe for them to return to their service while also helping small businesses in our community.
