Rio Grande Alcoholism Treatment Program is seeking your financial support in making a 16-bed drug and alcohol detoxification center available to all Taos County residents and surrounding communities; not just those with private insurance or income sufficient to pay for the services. Our goal is to raise $300,000 to install a fire suppression sprinkler system, as well as remodel restrooms and install showers.
The Rio Grande Detox & Recovery Center is located at 920C Salazar Road in Taos, has the ingredients to be the lifeline for adult men and women seeking recovery from drug or alcohol dependency. We hope you will join us in making this essential service available.
Because our county has been without a detox center for several years, county residents who experience an alcohol or drug overdose wind up either at the Holy Cross Hospital Emergency Room or the Taos County Detention Center. Neither facility has protocols or funding in place to “detox” an individual. However, by creating a safe and trauma-informed environment where clients can manage their intoxication and withdrawal symptoms, the same individuals can be provided the support they need to begin long-term recovery and return to being a contributing member of our respective communities.
There are many paths to recovery. A social detoxification program is a part of a continuum of care, which can include medical detoxification (triage), residential treatment, intensive outpatient treatment, 12-step meetings, and many additional treatment modalities. We believe the time to develop a detoxification program within Taos County is well overdue and that a social detox program is the best place to begin to address our county’s drug and alcohol abuse epidemic. We also realize that a “medical” detox program would be a logical follow-on program when the needed funding and program components can be put in place to develop one.
