Over the last year and a half, I have had the privilege of serving on the OC Red Cross Board of Directors. I'm honored to play a small role in a wonderful organization. I am continually impressed by how the American Red Cross rises to meet critical needs during these unprecedented times. Despite a global pandemic and massive wildfires, the Red Cross continues to show up to provide shelter and sustenance to victims of disaster.
I want to thank the Red Cross for the robust response to our local Silverado and Blue Ridge Fires. The organization worked closely with local emergency management to coordinate relief efforts, which are still ongoing. Many of us had friends or coworkers directly affected and forced to leave their homes. At the time of this writing, I can still smell the smoke in the air and feel immense gratitude for the feeding and sheltering volunteers who have served over 400 displaced members of our community.
The Red Cross impressively continues to meet over 40% of the nation’s blood supply needs. Moreover, the organization has expanded its role to become an integral part of collecting and distributing convalescent plasma to seriously ill patients affected by COVID-19. I have had several patients in the hospital receive convalescent plasma and am grateful for this resource. “Since April, the Red Cross has collected this antibody-rich plasma from more than 14,000 donors and has distributed more than 32,000 products to treat patients throughout the country.”
The Red Cross is a not-for-profit organization that depends on the generosity of the public to perform its mission. If able, I hope you will join me in support. My goal is to raise $2500 which I will match for a total goal of $5000. You may donate through this page or if you prefer check/mail, please let me know and I will connect you with a Red Cross member to help! Thank you!!
