Riley was only 4 years old, on January 4, 2014, when he was diagnosed with Pineoblastoma, a rare type of brain and spine cancer. Riley endured 31 days of proton radiation, followed by 6 cycles of high dose, inpatient chemotherapy. During treatment, Riley lost his ability to walk and remained in a wheelchair. He also suffered bilateral, significant hearing loss in both ears. Riley received speech, OT, PT, hearing, and special education services. He was stable for 18 months. Riley relapsed on June 1, 2016 and quickly had surgery to remove the new tumor, followed by one year of outpatient chemotherapy. He began the same chemotherapy regimen beginning in September of 2017. Riley suffered his first seizure on January 23, 2018. He was hospitalized for 5 1/2 weeks while suffering many more seizures, was placed on a ventilator, and during this stay, we learned that his cancer had returned for the second time. On March 3, 2018, Riley was discharged from the hospital, but sent home on hospice care. Riley passed away on March 19, 2018 after a long, four year battle with brain cancer. No child or family should ever have to suffer the way Riley and we did. We join Cal’s Angels fight against pediatric cancer!!! Please join our team and raise funds for pediatric research!
