Across the world, every one of us is experiencing the impact of COVID-19. In Africa, the halting of tourism has had a devastating economic impact which is threatening the livelihoods of millions of people, as well as the future of the continents iconic wildlife such as elephant, rhino and lion.
Money to pay rangers in some of worlds flagship wildlife areas in Africa is simply not there. Prized wilderness areas such as Tanzanias Serengeti, South Africas Kruger and many more are struggling to pay the salaries of the rangers which are the first line of defence against illegal poaching, grazing and logging - without them many species like elephant, rhino, lion, giraffe and pangolin would be at even greater risk of extinction.
The travel industry is coming together to raise funds to support African Rangers and wildlife by cumulatively cycling the distance of London to Cape Town 6,000 miles, starting with a cycle from Lands End to John OGroats on the 15th August .
Were asking all wildlife lovers to come together and to cycle to save our wildlife and keep rangers in their jobs. Join us for all or part of LEJOG or take part virtually. Together we can make a real difference.
All funds raised will go towards supporting the salaries and deployment of African Rangers during this crisis. The Tusk fund initiative is aiming to support 5,000 rangers over the next 6-9 months and has been established with generous match-funding, doubling the impact of every penny given.
Heres how you support could help!
£100 could purchase a GPS enabled camera to monitor wildlife
£200 could fund a Lion Guard Rangers salary for a month
£250 could provide materials needed to build a predator-proof livestock enclosure
£500 could sponsor a 4-man anti-poaching team in the field for a month.
Tusk is registered with GoFundMe.com in the USA (or www.justgiving.com in the UK and Rest of the World). Both online fundraising sites allow you to create a sponsorship form with easy access for your supporters, knowing their money is going directly to Tusk.
All donations on GoFundMe are processed to the Friends of Tusk fund at CAF (Charities Aid Foundation) America'. Please expect to see 'Charities Aid Foundation America' on your receipt.
