As the founder and executive director of this crazy organization which started with the gleaning of one tree and has since mushroomed into the recovery of over 63 million pounds of fresh produce donated to those in need across eight Southern California counties, I am getting out this season to push all my peeps to donate as a TEAM to celebrate 10 years of FRUITANTHROPY.
In this time Food Forward has grown into the LARGEST organization of its type in the region, employing a small staff, plus over 4,000 volunteers annually to rescue over 200 types of fresh nutritious surplus fruits and veggies that would otherwise go to waste. We rescue approximately 400,000 pounds of produce daily and get it to the finish line for less than $.09 a pound - nearly one third of the cost of a normal food bank!
