If quarantining has done anything, it's provided more time to consider doing ridiculous challenges for a great cause!
I’ve always believed that if I’m going to request people's hard earned charity donations, I better make sure I earn them…and I think attempting to run for over 100 miles /24hrs around my neighbourhood fits the bill! If you are able to donate, I guarantee I will suffer to earn your donation!
For those who are unfamiliar with the “Backyard Ultra” format, it was created by arguably (…actually not arguably) the most infamous (and sinister) race director of all time… Mr. Lazarus Lake (creator of the Barkley Marathons) and involves running 6.7km loops on the hour, every hour until you can’t run anymore…or until you are the “last person standing” (which typically requires the winner to run for over 60hrs). I’ll likely be doing a mix of treadmill running at home and running outdoor loops near my house. My goal is to run for at least 24hrs and reach the 100 mile mark but anything beyond 100km will be the longest I have ever run in one shot.
All proceeds will go directly to the MitoCanada Foundation. I will cover all of my own costs, including my “race fuel” (i.e red bull and donuts) as well as the extensive post-race physio bills that will inevitable arise after the event.
Thanks for your support, whether that be through a donation or just cheering me on. I really appreciate it! Plus if you are really, really bored on July 11, don’t worry!... You will be able to follow my progress during the event through my Facebook page HERE.
