Stamina for Survivors combines two of my passions: endurance sports and fighting the battle against trafficking. Trail running, my current sport, has given me opportunities to encounter patience, joy, empathy, pain, persistence, and grit, to name a few. I hope to use this amazing sport to raise both awareness and funding for survivors of human trafficking this summer.
I've been involved with Reintgra, based in Boulder and Mexico City, which offers holistic support to women who have been rescued from trafficking. Stamina for Survivors is a summer-long campaign in which participants choose an endurance event as a way to fundraise.
I just received the good news that the Pike's Peak Marathon will be happening this year on August 23! This is a trail marathon, with an elevation gain of 7,815 feet and reaching the summit of Pike's Peak at 14,050 feet, before returning to the start.
My goal is to finish in the top 10 women and/or to break 5 hours and 30 minutes. This is ambitious, given the race attracts mountain athletes from around the country and globe, but I believe it is possible with the training I've done, paired with a smart racing strategy.
