If you're LGBTQ+, poor, and living with serious mental illness in New York City its hard enough to keep on your path to recovery without having to worry about where your next meal is coming from.
We provide over 200 free meals per week to our members. That's over 10,000 free meals each year!
94% of our members eat dinner at the club.
87% of our members report this is usually their main meal of the day.
Rainbow Heights Club provides free mental health recovery support and advocacy services for over 750 low/no income LGBTQ people living with serious mental illness. We are the only agency in the State of New York dedicated to serving this population.
LGBTQ people living with serious mental illness are often stigmatized and marginalized due to their mental health status as well as their sexual orientation/gender identity. Our club provides a safe drop-in space where LGBTQ people who are living with serious mental illness can find support, friendship, community, and move forward with their recovery. Located in downtown Brooklyn, Rainbow Heights Club services are all free of charge and are provided seven hours a day, five days a week.
We need your help so that we can continue to provide a free hot meal to our consumers at the end of the program day.
YOUR DONATIONS WILL BE MATCHED DOLLAR FOR DOLLAR (up to $10,000)
We serve over 50 individuals per day, and 90% of them are able to stay out of inpatient psychiatric hospitalization and in the community because of the support that we provide.
Because most of our members live below the poverty line and subsist on disability and other forms of public assistance they often struggle to plan their next meal.
Its hard to keep on the road to recovery when you're not sure if you're going to eat on a given day.
We respond by providing members who have participated in the day's activities with a free meal each afternoon. Members suggest menus, create recipes and help to prepare and serve the meal which helps to keep our costs down to only $3.50 per person, per meal. Each meal includes a vegetarian option, a fresh green salad, and sugar-free drink.
