Caminos de Accion (CdA) works in Los Tehuistes (Tehuiste Arriba and Tehuiste Abajo), two rural sister villages in La Paz, El Salvador. CdA's vision is to assist Salvadorans in reaching their full potential as members of and leaders in their families, communities, and society. Our mission is to work in solidarity with Salvadorans to facilitate community organization in order to address locally identified challenges in El Salvador including social, educational, and health related issues.
To reach our vision CdA supports local committees that have successfully lobbied for clean water access and storage, implemented organic farming, educated the community about water, sanitation, and hygiene, graduated 11 scholarship students, and are leading reforastation and trash management projects.
The women and girls of Los Tehuistes inspire us day in and day out. 8 out of CdA's 11 Scholarship Program graduates were female. 6 out of the current 10 scholarship students are female. The leader of the Scholarship Committee is a woman, and in addition, she's one of the only college-educated people in the community. The women of the community are the event planners and organizers. They make ideas a reality. They are also more than keeping up with the men in our Organic Agriculture Program. Through Ciudad Mujer, they are learning new skills and professions, such as sewing, baking, and cutting hair. They are opening their own businesses. We are in awe of these women.
Your support goes directly towards funding the above programs and projects and the women of Los Tehuistes. To learn more about our work in El Salvador, go to www.caminosdeaccion.org.
