Emerson Alejandro Echeverria was born May 7, 2003 in the community of Tehuiste Abajo in La Paz, El Salvador. He will start high school in January 2019 as a Caminos de Accion (CdA) scholarship student and will graduate in December 2021. Emerson will attend the Instituto Nacional Prof. Francisco Guerrero in San Rafael Obrajuelo, La Paz.
Emerson is from a family of five and is the oldest child. His father, a farmer, finished the sixth grade, and his mother, a sweatshop worker, completed the 4th grade. Emerson will be the first in his family to attend high school, and hopefully, university.
Caminos de Accion (CdA) works in Los Tehuistes (Tehuiste Arriba and Tehuiste Abajo), two rural sister villages in La Paz, El Salvador where, in addition to studying (100% of participants have graduated), our students run health and sanitation campaigns, river and street clean ups, and an adult literacy program. The funds that scholarships students receive monthly from Caminos de Accion for transportation, food, tuition, uniforms, school supplies, and educational workshops ensure families don’t have to sacrifice their children’s education.
