Help us support childhood cancer families during this time of need.
For the past 5 years, we have been committed to supporting families all over the U.S. facing childhood cancer and child loss. Now, during this time of COVID-19, our unique and thriving retreat program must be put on hold, perhaps even canceled for the year. We won't stop doing our good work though. Instead of an obstacle, we see an opportunity. It is the optimal time to re-engineer our vision and strategy for the future. Our intention is to create new sustainable offerings for cancer and loss families that include virtual and financial support.
A good organization can pivot during a hardship, and we intend very much to do just that this spring and summer through our Virtual Offerings, Family Quarantine Care Packages, and Family Grant Program. Just last weekend, we hosted ten bereaved parents on a zoom "retreat" for 3 hours of sharing, learning, and listening. We got great feedback, including one mom who said, "[I] loved being around strong women and hearing about their beautiful children, setting aside a Saturday morning for my own self love was perfect." Even though we weren't able to hug each other in person, the connection felt real.
We are also working hard to get our Family Grant Program up and running. Here's where you can help. We are hoping to raise necessary funds to support at least 10 families who have been affected directly by COVID-19 while going through cancer treatment with their child or trying to figure life out again after their child's death. Through this GIVINGTUESDAYNOW fundraiser we will be able to kickstart this grant program.
We realize that philanthropy will probably decline this year, and that is why we are encouraging all of the people that are not affected financially by this crisis to consider how they can be helpers.
Just try to imagine being quarantined not in your home, but in the hospital with your child (no visitors, no donated trips, no making friends with other cancer families). Or imagine that while your child is terminally ill or you are grieving the ultimate loss, you are laid off from your job, cut off from health insurance or unable to pay your dead child's medical bills. This is actually happening to families, and we cannot turn a blind eye!
Your gift will help provide immediate financial support to the childhood cancer families most affected by the COVID-19 disaster, so they can purchase food and pay their bills.
