United American Cemetery is located in the heart of the Madisonville community north of Duck Creek Road and east of Kennedy Avenue. This cemetery was established in 1883 by the United Colored American Association in this neighborhood. This cemetery was previously located in Avondale established in 1848. It is said to be the oldest Black cemetery in Ohio. In 1968, Councilman Charles P. Taft, trustee of Spring Grove Cemetery who was appointed to operate this cemetery, transferred the care of it to Union Baptist Church. After many years of struggling to upkeep and preserve this historic burial site full of African American dignitaries, masons, veterans, and laypersons; we are seeking your help to restore the United American Cemetery back to its original beauty.
