ACF (AYESHA CHUNDRIGAR FOUNDATION)
ACF (AYESHA CHUNDRIGAR FOUNDATION) is a non-profit organization based in Karachi, Pakistan, registered in 2013 under the Societies Registration Act of 1860 of Pakistan.
ACF was created with a vision to assist marginalised or forgotten communities, animals and humans alike, to be rescued and rehabilitated, to improve their quality of life, for everyone to to have a fair chance to live their lives with dignity and respect.
ACF is popularly known as ACF Animal Rescue; the first initiative ACF started was the first-of-its-kind animal shelter in Pakistan, based in Karachi for injured and unwell stray animals such as dogs, cats and kites and working animals such as donkeys, horses and camels.
We began rescue service ambulances, we have an active rescue helpline and social media where reporters report injured animals, as well as a spay/neuter/release programme; once a healthy dog/cat has fully recovered from surgery (spay/neuter) and after post-operative care, we release them back into the community in areas we have identified as safe zones.
We also hold donkey camps, where our team goes out to different donkey/equine populated areas of the city including brick kilns and coal mines to provide medical treatment, food and water to the donkeys and to educate the owner on donkey behaviour and donkey handling. We also explain to the owners how treating their animals better will help them in the long run as a donkey is a donkey owner’s (daily wager) sole source of income. Such learning is carried out via social mobilization, capacity building and community awareness programmes.
Working animals and their owners are one of the largest and most neglected communties in the country and ACF is one of the few organizations working for their betterment.
Our donkey camps have gained immense popularity and have created off-shoot outreach models across Pakistan that further our cause of helping all marginalized communities and human welfare as highlighted in Network of Kindness (An ACF Project)
Empathic education is something we emphasize on greatly; our team alongside some of our animals including baby donkeys,three-legged dogs and animals on wheelchairs visit different schools, institutes for people/children special needs, drug rehabiltation centres for children/adults, women empowerment centres etc to raise awareness about animal right and to enable them to learn empathy and compassion for those around them and moreso, for themselves. We believe animals are the best medium for one to understand empathy and once you can tap into your empathic nature, it creates compassion in all facets of life.
Equal opporttunities, diversity and inclusivity are imperative elements of the ACF mantra; we create job opportunities for people with special needs, the deaf, acid burn survivors, those recovering from addiction amongst others to motivate them in a non-judgemental, all-inclusive, holistic enviornnment to live a life of dignity and respect.
ACF has been approved/certified by Pakistan Centre for Philanthropy (PCP) and i-Care Foundation.
In addition, ACF has been granted an Income Tax Exemption by FBR under Section 2(36)(c) which makes all donations made to ACF tax-exempt.
