The "Because of 26" mural was created in 2013 by over 30 artists ages 7-95 and memorialized the lives lost in the Sandy Hook tragedy. The creation of the mural was part of a townwide event that occurred along Southington CT's Rails to Trails celebrating a Day of Kindness. In lieu of the shootings that occurred at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT, hundreds of people young and old made a commitment to be kinder to each other. Unfortunately the mural was recently vandalized with graffiti which can only be fixed by hiring an artist to repair and repaint the mural. Thankfully, one of the original artists on the project Ryan Christensen, who is now an internationally acclaimed muralist, came out immediately and repaired the damage. It is now back to its original beauty complete with 26 butterflies arising from their cocoons in the grass as they surround the universal sun. We have pursued every avenue possible to find out if the person responsible for the damage could make restitution, but as it stands now it could be months away. Please help us raise the funds to pay Ryan also know as "ARCY" for his materials and labor to repair the mural and also reimburse the owner for other damages. Give what you can and help us to heal once again through acts of kindness.
