On Nov. 22, 2020 a horrific tragedy occurred at Grace Solutions' winter shelter at Grace Baptist Church in San Jose. A violent action resulted in three people being seriously wounded and two others dead. This caused the shelter to close down for the investigation, cleaning and restocking.
Since Grace is a family, we could not in good conscience send our 32 brothers and sisters out into the street in the cold, after enduring such trauma. We acted immediately by moving to a hotel until we are able to reopen. Even though this cost was not budgeted, it was the right thing to do.
By donating, you will help us finalize the temporary housing costs and help to replenish our ongoing operating funds in order to keep our winter shelter open.
While we are devastated and in deep grief over the beautiful lives lost, we remain just as committed as ever, if not more so, to supporting our most vulnerable neighbors in a loving, caring atmosphere.
We believe good can come out of anything. And that we will become an even stronger community because of this. We will continue to work towards the day when everyone has the dignity of their own home. And when both housed and unhoused alike are treated with the respect they deserve.
In deep appreciation for your generous donation and for sharing widely with your contacts.
