Overnight camp can be a magical experience for so many kids. It fosters independence, self-confidence, resilience and ongoing special friendships that last all the way into adulthood. Remy and Izzie are special friends who are both proud Tamarack Campers - and wouldn’t trade their camp experience for anything in the world.
Here is what camp has meant to each of the girls:
Izzie: Camp gives me something to do over the summer that’s so much fun and makes me happy. I’ve made new friends there that I have a very special bond with. When I first when to camp, I hated it...I was so homesick and asked for a map to get home but now it is my favorite thing I do all year. Camp gets better and better every year and has made me so much more independent and confident.
Remy: Camp is the best part of my year. Because of camp, I made friends that I wouldn’t have gotten the chance to meet and have done things that I wouldn’t have gotten the chance to do, like camping trips. Before camp, I used to be more shy and had a hard time talking to people I didn’t know. Now I’m a lot more social. Remy is a 3rd generation Tamarack camper. Her Mitzvah Project is especially meaningful to her family because her Mom was a scholarship camper herself.
Unfortunately, overnight camp is very expensive, and many families cannot afford to offer their children this opportunity. Remy and Izzie are about to leave for their 6th summer together as Tamarack Campers. Within a month and a half of their return, they will both celebrate their Bat Mitzvahs. For both girls, it made perfect sense to raise money for Tamarack’s Send a Kid to Camp fundraiser as their Mitzvah project. They both want to share the Tamarack love with others who don’t have the same opportunity as they do and help to provide as many children as they can with this unforgettable experience.
Please consider donating to Remy and Izzie’s Mitzvah Project and help “Send a Kid to Tamarack”!! “When you donate to Send a Kid to Tamarack, you help fund scholarships, Jewish identity building and a myriad of programming that creates long-lasting memories for our summer campers and staff.” ~Tamarack Camps
