I'm an RN and a Program Coordinator for the Alzheimer's Association. Those are my professional "connections" to Alzheimer's/dementia. My personal "connection" runs much deeper, as my dear mother suffered terribly the last 7 years of her beautiful life with this beast of a disease. I can't tell you how utterly devastating and heartbreaking it is to watch someone you love suffer like that. We MUST find a cure!! My fundraiser is part of the Alzheimer's Association "The Longest Day " fundraiser - Team "Remembering Joycelyn", which coincides with the literal "longest day".....the longest day of the year......the most light to fight the darkness of Alzheimer's disease. The objective is to take something you really enjoy doing and turn it into a little fundraiser for the association. I LOVE to sketch with my fountain pens and paint with watercolors. It so happens that I live in one of the most gorgeous areas of Ohio, home to the Mohican State Park. Down in the heart of that park is a beautiful covered bridge that we are pretty well known for here. I decided to do a painting of that bridge and "raffle" it off and donate all the funds to the Alzheimer's Association in honor of my dear mother Joycelyn. So, for each $5.00 donated, a purple ticket with the donor's name will be added to the jar. For example, if you donate $10 you will have 2 tickets/chances in the jar. If you donate $100, you will have 20 tickets/chances in the jar!!! Then on June 20th, we will draw the winning ticket and I will send the painting to the lucky winner. An important tidbit of information ..... I will be retaining the copyright on the painting, as I already have plans for the image but the winner will get the original painting on 140lb watercolor paper.
