Our story is theirs.
Did you know that the average age of our residents at the Mother of Good Counsel Home is 86?
They arrive at our Home from every background and have not ceased to brighten our Home by their individual gifts and personalities. One thing they have in common though is that this past year has not been an easy one.
Truthfully, it is never really easy being away from the place you've made your "home." Despite all the struggles and difficulties that they've embraced throughout their lives, their gratitude for the little things has tremendously inspired us all. The way their face lights up when a Mission Partner (our term for employees) goes out of their way to show them that they are loved and special, or when a Sister greets them and prays with them.
These residents and their quality of life are why this campaign is so incredibly important. Your contribution grants us the resources to create a comfortable and functional environment for our elderly and vulnerable.
These updated areas will be greatly enjoyed by our residents, but also for their families and our Mission Partners (our chosen term for employees). A Home is a place where everyone can take pride and joy in being a part of something greater than ourselves.
Currently, our outdated indoor and outdoor furniture cannot sustain the daily wear-and-tear. We would like to purchase pieces that are more suitable for our residents' comfort and safety.
In addition to the functionality of these pieces, we believe that a Home is cohesive. In order to especially aid our residents in need of memory care, a resonating theme throughout their hallways and the Home would influence their cognitive abilities for the better.
Our Mission and why now?
This past year all throughout the world and especially in our nation, the precautions and limitations taken to protect our residents dampened the ability for families to see one other. While this past year may have been dismal and disappointing, "we know that all things work for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose." (Romans 8:28).
It seemed that Our Lord used the past year to form our Mother of Good Counsel Home into a community united through a singular mission:
To foster a beautiful Home where Christ's mercy and love motivate every aspect of life including clinical care, community, and spiritual life, so that our Residents may live fully and prepare peacefully for their final journey to the Father.
The Sisters of St. Francis of the Martyr St. George in conversation with Mission Partners, Residents, past and present families, and friends of the Home have spent this past year discerning and crafting our above mission statement.
Creating our mission statement was not out of a lack, but rather, of an overflowing desire to fully express the totality of life lived here. This time of prayer allowed us to embrace the core of why God has asked us to serve Him here at Mother of Good Counsel Home.
We believe that every home, but especially our Home should be a beautiful place where life flourishes. That even towards the end of one's life, God's not done working in and through our residents.
Our Sisters aren't the only ones who have experienced the gift of life that our residents bring to our Home. During the pandemic, we witnessed our mission partners constantly giving more and more of themselves without counting the cost. This unconditional love for our residents has been the everyday foundation in our service for our residents.
The significance of 43. You may have noticed that this campaign is taking place from June 13th through July 25th. Those dates may seem random, but God's Providence shows us that He has indeed planned all the details. We begin on June 13th, the feast of St. Anthony- the patron of the elderly! Pope Francis has set the fourth Sunday of July as the "World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly," which will be celebrated this year on July 25th- exactly 43 days from June 13th!
We also found that the average age of our current residents is 86, which is 43 doubled! We are confident that God will continue to provide for our residents, just as He's done for all of us- whether we're 21, 43, or 86 years old!
Thank you for your contribution!
Your support aids us in fostering a beautiful Home where every resident finds joy and peace. May God continue to bless and encourage you all!
In Christ our Hope,
Sister M. Anselma and all the Sisters of St. Francis of the Martyr St. George at the Mother of Good Counsel Home
