On June 2, 2018 Volcano Fuego violently erupted in Guatemala...greatly affecting our partner villages in the area. Some communities were covered in ash so thick that roofs collapsed and water supplies were contaminated. Others were evacuated never to see their homes again. And still others...were completely buried alive. To this day, Volcano Fuego continues to spew ash and lava and the survivors throughout Ceylan, Zapote, Osuna, ChuChu, San Felipe, El Rodeo, and Los Lotes are struggling to rebound and rebuild.
Our amazing network of supporters sprang to action to raise funds throughout June to send to our partners at Vamos Adelante. These funds were used to distribute tin sheets for new roofs, eco-water filters for clean drinking water, solar lights, cleaning supplies, cooking essentials and food, transportation for families to evacuate, fuel for excavating machines, and funerals for those we lost.
Our team of parents and children (Kids for Guatemala) are traveling back to Guatemala in November to show our friends that we are here as a support system for them. We will connect to those who have lost everything, listen to their stories, and help them to rebuild their lives. We are asking for your support in this journey. Hundreds perished and thousands were relocated in this natural disaster. We can only imagine the devastation and destruction we will see, but we know our partner communities are resilient and will do everything in their power to pick themselves up and begin again.
