During the night ofJune 17 the home and office of Youth of Sumud in the Palestininan village of Saurora was completely destroyed by a mob of Israeli settlers who demolished the stone interior, entryway, kitchen, furniture, toilet, water tanks and pipes, and beautifully tiled floor of the rebuilt historic cave home.
Youth of Sumud has begun to rebuild their home and office again after this most recent violence and Palestine Partners is comitted to helping with this restoration.
The assault was the third in recent months. On May 22 settlers torched the interior of the cave and surrounding fields, causing sbstantial damage, and on May 15 Israeli soldiers raided Youth of Sumud's offices in the cave.
The village of Saurora, located near Tuwani in the South Hebron Hills area of the West Bank, was abandoned in the l990's after sustained settler attacks and violence forced the families living there to leave their homes. Since 2017 Youth of Sumud, accompanied by Israeli and International volunteers, has worked to rebuild the village's historic homes, terraces, fields . olive roves and gardens, and re-create safety in the village through a sustained peaceful presence.
Youth of Sumud, formed in 2017, is a group of Palestinians in South Hebron Hills which believes and is committed to a peaceful popular resistance as a strategic choice to end the Israeli occupation. The Arabic word Sumud is most closeley translated to english as steadfastness.
