Once again, Jefferson and I (and sometimes Solomon) will be participating in Dewey’s 24 hour Readathon. Because we recognize that not everyone has the privilege to lay around and do nothing but read for 24 hours, and because not all children get the same opportunities to fall in love with reading, we choose to make our readathon a fundraiser for a literacy-related charity.
We've raised funds for a number of different groups so far, but this year we decided on the amazing Dolly Parton's Imagination Library! Children who sign up for the program will get one free book mailed to them every month, from birth until they are old enough to go to school (and hopefully have access to lots of amazing books there!) Because of the way the way crowdrise is set up, only a few local Imaganation Library programs are avaiable to throw a fundraiser for, and we chose the one closest to us, in Hardin County, Ohio, where 957 children are currently enrolled. Every $2.10 funds one book for a child!
We (and the children of Hardin County) would be so grateful for your support. We check in on our fundraiser very frequently throughout the day, and it motivates us to stay focused and keep reading! We will post on social media throughout the day to let you know our progress.
You can make a flat donation in any amount you like, or if you want to give us a little extra challenge, pledge a donation tied to the number of books or pages that we complete. You can pledge to support Jefferson, me, both of us, or even pledge to support Solomon (and see if he takes it a bit more seriously this year!)
Our totals from last year, so you have some idea what you could afford to pledge:
Final counts for Jen:
Books finished: 8
Pages read: 1480
Final counts for Jefferson:
Books finished: 3
Pages read: 1448
Books finished: 11
Pages read: 2928
