The Dartmouth Running Team (DRT, pronounced "dirt") annually completes an event called RATS--Race Across the State (of NH).

Because of the term being remote due to the pandemic, this year the event will be virtual, with each athlete running in their current location on Saturday, May 16th. It's an overnight relay of 113 miles completed by 10 or so intrepid DRT athletes with a penchant for running and absurd endeavors. It's a blast and a terrific physical test of endurance and fortitude. It's also a wonderful opportunity to do good. As a part of RATS, the team raises money in benefit of a charity or foundation.

In light of the pandemic, we have selected the NH Charitable Foundation's Community Crisis Action Fund as the benefit of our event this year. The pandemic is affecting everyone deeply in a myriad of ways, including many of our teammates and peers. It only feels right for us to use our hearts, our soles, and our health to bring a little bit of good to the state that we all call home and miss so dearly right now.

We hope to raise at least $1000 as a team, if not more! Thank you for your help in reaching that goal, we truly couldn't do it without you. Also, thanks for giving meaning to us running an absurd amount of miles!

If you can’t make a donation at this point, help us reach our goal by sharing this on social media or with friends who might be interested in contributing.

We will have two teams competing in a coordinated virtual RATS, with each team trying to complete the 113 miles in relay fashion, with only one runner logging miles at a time on each team. There will also be a cumulative team goal of running 325 total miles on the day of the event, aided by additional DRT members that are not participating in the coordinated RATS competition. It could take the team up to 20 hours to complete, or as few as 12.

We will be posting regularly on our Instagram account, @dartmouthrunningteam.  Follow us to stay updated with the progress of the teams and the cumulative challenge!

Of course, we couldn't do this without the tremendous help of Positive Tracks, who always go leaps and bounds beyond what is expected to empower young athletes to #SweatForGood. In addition to providing hands-on guidance and helping us organize, they’re doubling our dollars to support the NH Charitable Foundation's Community Crisis Action Fund, up to $100.
