Raritan Valley Regional EMS is Edison Township's volunteer first aid squad since 1935. We are a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization staffed by volunteer EMTs and members. RVREMS was formed in the year 2009, when volunteer members of the Edison First Aid & Rescue Squad #1, Edison First Aid Squad #2 and the Clara Barton First Aid Squad joined together to combine resources and better serve the residents of Edison and surrounding communities. We continue to provide emergency medical services to Edison at no charge.
In 2021 RVREMS hopes to increase its capabilities of providing no charge emergency medical services. We also hope to reduce the risk of injuries amoung our members and our patients. With funding acquired from your donations we will purchase a new automated stretcher.
This initiative is all about health; the health of our members and the health of the community. Currently, our members are at risk of back injuries due to the burden of having to manually lift the stretcher with a patient. It is widely known and supported, with evidence from the CDC, that injuries among EMS workers are closely tied to lifting and moving patients. The current stretchers that our organization has requires two people to manually lift the stretcher. According to the CDC in a 2017 study, about 5,800 injuries came from overexertion. The automated stretcher would eliminate the risk for crew member injury. This would improve the health of our volunteers.
This will also benefit the health of our community.
Patients are at a reduced risk when lifted by an automated stretcher. Most EMS agencies have already upgraded to automated stretchers.
We hope you will consider supporting our campaign and reducing the risk to our volunteers and patients.
