As I sat back last year and watched news story after news story unfold about women not feeling empowered, and I went through my own day-to-day feeling like I lacked the confidence I needed to progress, I decided something had to change.
This is the year I’m going to attempt to change that narrative for myself, and to give girls the tools they need to feel empowered. That’s why I’m running the NYC Half Marathon on March 18 to raise funds for Girls on the Run.
I always feel my best when I’m outside exercising, and found that Girls on the Run is an organization that I can get behind because it teaches life skills to 8 to 13 year-old girls through dynamic, conversation based lessons and running games. The goal of the program is to unleash confidence through accomplishment while establishing a lifetime appreciation of health and fitness. The program culminates with the girls being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5k running event, one of the most special days of the year for all of the Girls on the Run participants and volunteers.
My goal is to raise $1,600, and your generosity can fund our program in many ways, including:
- $35 can sponsor a pair of running shoes for one girl.
- $150 can fund healthy snacks and a pair of running shoes for three girls in the program.
- $300 can support a full season scholarship and healthy snacks and running shoes for one girl.
- $1,500 can support 5 girls (That’s half a team!) for a full season.
If you are willing and able to donate, you can do so here!
I am excited to stop watching and contribute to change by running in the 2018 NYC Half Marathon as part of the Girls on the Run NYC SoleMates team. Your help will allow Girls on the Run to deliver their curriculum and empower more girls across NYC to believe in themselves and all they can do.
Thank you so much in advance.
