Every Dog Deserves a Second Chance, and that's just what over 5,000 dogs have gotten since the founding of Second Chance at Love Humane Society 22 years ago. In a world where animal “shelters” are often just stopovers on the way to euthanasia—where abandoned, neglected, abused, and troubled pets are condemned for the carelessness of humans—this is a place where dogs get a second chance at life, love, and happiness.
We are a no-kill animal welfare organization founded in 1994 for our society’s dog outcasts: Pit Bulls, Rottweilers, and other strong-willed breeds; "widowed" senior citizen dogs; dogs without leaders or advocates; dogs trained to fear and fight. Few humans have a heart for sick, old, troubled or intimidating dogs. Few dare to take on the challenge these animals present. Few realize that, if given the chance, there is certain hope for these tragically misunderstood animals.
We have a 100% adoption rate. In our entire existence, only a handful of dogs with issues or disabilities that prevented them from being placed, have lived their lives out with either our adoption director or our founder, Cheri Lucas. No dog has ever been euthanized.
We can't continue our good work without your help. We are an all volunteer organization, so your financial support goes directly to our dogs for food, medical needs, and shelter. Our dogs are walked and worked with every day by a group of dedicated volunteers. Our shelter is in beautiful rural Templeton, California on the Central Coast, where our dogs enjoy spacious runs and warm beds at night. Our shelter manager lives at the shelter, so our dogs are never alone.
