Join us in supporting AAPI in the arts!
Last Updated October 2020
We’re Tammy, Michelle and Bryan, the three co-founders of #HATEISAVIRUS, a movement that first started in response to Asian Americans fueled by COVID-19 and has since grown into an organization that mobilizes our AAPI community to fight against hate and racism against any communities of color.
Since launching our movement in April 2020, we’ve reached over 15 million impressions through the efforts our community advocates and leaders, including Megan Lee, Leonard Lim, SUCH, Sara Benincasa, Tim Chiou, and Adrienne Lawrence. We’ve seen thousands of posts from supporters posting with #HATEISAVIRUS and what this movement means to them. And we’ve seen artists, illustrators, and musicians creating encouraging and healing art to capture how many of us feel about the rising hate and racism.
Our team has also grown to something much larger than the three of us. Thank you to Saul Lopez, Kari Okubo, Jessica Stafford, Jason Chu, Riya Che, Tony Kim, Nicki Sun, Christian Perfas, Nico Sung Hyun Buonasora, Annie Wang, Samuel Hyun, Kendice Choi and many more who have joined and supported our team during this time.
With all of your help, we kicked off our first Raise A Million virtual rally on May 23rd to bring our communities to rally against these issues and raised over $17K for Asian-owned businesses (with your help). Learn more about who we were able to support at hateisavirus.world. You can also read our full press release here: https://www.hateisavirus.world/press-release/raise-a-million-chapter-1.
Join us in highlighting social justice issues & our community
On October 17th at 8pm EDT/5pm PDT, Hate Is A Virus will be hosting Raise A Million Chapter II - this time to highlight and raise money for BIPOC creatives and community arts organizations, including Kollaboration and Act to Change. The livestream will feature Sandra Oh, SuChin Pak, AJ Rafael, among other notable advocates, actors, performers, and community organizers.
In addition to raising money for BIPOC community arts organizations and creatives, Hate Is A Virus has also joined forces with creatives around the nation to advocate for AAPI individuals to vote this election season. At 11 million eligible voters, Asian Americans make up nearly 5% of the nation’s eligible voters. During the virtual fundraiser, we will launch our #ExpressYourVote campaign aimed at rallying AAPI community members to get out the vote.
Our movement is truly a reflection of how the community has come together during this time. We hope that you continue to join our efforts.
Looking forward to seeing you at our next event!
