Our community garden in SW Detroit is not connected to city water system...this has been both gift and a curse. We've gotten creative with water sources to offset dry spells, but we've also become more intimate with a very real global challenge of reliable water access. A young 13 yo neighbor posed a great idea "to build something better" and the wheels started turning.
Our goal now is to build an affordable, beautiful rainwater system for our garden and as a model to deploy to Detroit neighborhoods. Working alongside our young neighbor, the target is to collect 300 gallons of rainwater per month and implement filteration & sterilization for safe drinking.
Your contribution will go toward the second prototype, which would be refined enough to approach our Detroit partners for scaling up. All donors wil be recognized directly on the rain barrels. Our team will match proceeds 50 cents to the dollar, until the goal is met.
