ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease, stands for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. ALS is a degenerative disease that leads to the body's inability to control it's muscles and consequent muscle wasting. As the muscle wasting in ALS increases, individuals are left without the ability to speak, eat, move, and breathe.
It is estimated that more than 20,000 American's are affected by this disease at any given time.
The ALS Association helps fund new research to develop a cure for ALS while simultaneously helping those affected by the disease. Help includes referrals to support groups and education on the disease, equipment loan programs, and bereavement services for those that have lost love one's to the disease.
I hope to run 13.1 miles to help bring awareness to this disease that so many are affected by! Help me in fundraising $300 for the ALS Association, Oklahoma Chapter!
