This December I turn 30! To celebrate, I will be running my FIRST EVER marathon at one of my favorite places, Walt Disney World, on January 12, 2020. In lieu of birthday gifts, I am raising money for one of my favorite charities: Move for Hunger!
As most of you know, I have worked in the moving & storage industry since 2012. Move for Hunger partners with relocation companies to collect food that is usually tossed during a move. It has been a delight to watch this organization to grow. So far they have collected more than 15 million pounds of food donations, and I want to help them feed more families!
Below are some staggering facts about hunger in America:
FACT: 1 in 8 Americans struggle with hunger. At the same time, nearly 40% of all food produced ends up in landfills. Move For Hunger is a non-profit organization that works with relocation companies across North America to pick up the unopened food from those who are relocating and deliver it to local food banks.
Move For Hunger is a national nonprofit organization that has found a sustainable way to reduce food waste and fight hunger. By mobilizing leaders in the moving, relocation, and multi-family industries to provide their customers, clients, and residents witht he opportunity to donate their food when they moved. Since 2009, Move For Hunger has collected 16 million pounds of food, and has helped to feed over 13.2 million people. Your support will directly impact the number of people they are able to feed in the years ahead. 95% of every donation goes directly towards our hunger relief and food waste reduction programs. Hunger is a year-round problem that requires a year-round solution.
Any amount helps, but in honor of the number of miles I am running, I am asking for a donation of at least $26.20 to celebrate my birthday. I appreciate the motivation I get from these donations as I train for my marathon!
