My brother Casey was diagnosed with Fragile X Syndrome when he was 6 years old. Fragile X is caused by a mutation of the FMR1 gene. It causes intellectual disabilities, but can also cause anxiety, hyperactive behaviors and has similar characteristics to the autism spectrum, including issues with speech and social interaction.
Casey is the BEST big brother. He doesn’t let his “disability” get in his way. He’s always down for a good time and would do anything for anyone! He is hilarious and witty, empathetic and caring, and just so special to me. He adores Bennett and loves teaching him new things.
Want to join me in Stepping Up for Fragile X? I’ve created a fundraising team named Race for Case where I'm raising money for the FRAXA Research Foundation. Your contribution will make an impact, whether you donate $5 or $500. Every little bit helps.
FRAXA's mission is to find effective treatments and ultimately a cure for Fragile X syndrome. This foundation is near and dear to my heart, and I continue to pray that a cure is found one day. Thank you for your support and raising awareness for Fragile X syndrome.
