Imagine being a child standing in the snow, waiting for the bus, with nothing but your jacket pockets to keep your hands warm. Imagine not being able to play in the snow, to build a snow fort, to have a snowball fight. Imagine trying to start your school day with fingers so cold that it's hard to hold your pencil. Maybe you felt this cold during last Winter's Polar Vortex. Imagine yourself without warm gloves, trying to keep your hands warm enough to avoid frostbite, to be able to stay healthy. It's not just about kids. Everyone gets cold hands.
Now imagine that you can change this reality for so many Detroiters by putting new mittens and gloves onto their hands by donating to Mittens for Detroit through the Quicken Loans Detroit Community Challenge. Your generosity will make a significant difference in the daily lives of folks in Detroit, Hamtramck, Highland Park, and even some of the refugee kids in Dearborn. It's hard to think about winter weather when we are smack-dab in the middle Summer... but now is the time to take action.
Your donation of $35, for instance, will warm the hands of 5 people this winter with new warm gloves - gloves that would retail for $20. Working with our product partner Michigan's Broner Hat & Glove, we are able to leverage your gift to go far. The dollars raised in your generous donations will fund an early purchase of teens and men's gloves so that we can hit the ground running in October - as these are the sizes that we receive the fewest of in the public collections each year. YOU can help us reach our goal!
Maybe you've volunteered in The Big Sort, and you have seen for yourself what we do to work with the community on both the giving and receiving sides of warmth. Maybe this is your first time hearing about us. We need YOU to help us help others.
Please join Team Mittens as a donor today. We hope you'll become Team Mittens Ambassador by starting a fundraising team of your own! Please make your donation today and know that you have helped to warm the hearts and hands of so many students in need. Mittens for Detroit is a small but mighty nonprofit, with a huge impact - downtown and in the neighborhoods - one-quarter million pairs collected and distributed in its first 9 years of operation. Join us in celebrating this year in our 10th Collection Season!
How does Mittens for Detroit work? We collect, purchase and distribute new mittens and gloves to children and adults in need in Detroit and other underserved communities, from 10/1-1/31 every year. Pairs are donated in public and private collections, processed by hundreds of volunteers, and distributed with the help of nearly 100 partner charities, organizations, agencies, and schools, who distribute the thousands of pairs donated each year. This season's goal is 50,000 pairs. Our partners include Alternative for Girls, The Children’s Center of Wayne County, COTS, Covenant House of Michigan, Capuchin Soup Kitchen, the Michigan Veterans Foundation, and Detroit, Hamtrack, and Highland Park schools and many more. Mittens for Detroit is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Donations are tax-deductible. Please visit our website for more information - www.MittensForDetroit.org. Thank you for your generosity!
