On Sunday, September 30th, mobilize with music, to raise awareness about gun violence in America and here in Queens! The Queens Concert Against Gun Violence will be at John Brown’s Smokehouse in Long Island City from approximately 2-6 p.m.
This concert is just one in a series of non-partisan events occurring all over the country in September 2018 -- the Concert Across America -- with the intent to raise awareness about the gun violence epidemic and to fund-raise on behalf of organizations that prevent violence.
Please view our Facebook event for more details about the show: https://www.facebook.com/events/219080978759605/
Proceeds to this year’s show will go to 696 Build Queensbridge / Jacob A Riis Neighborhood Settlement in support of their violence prevention work at the Queensbridge Houses.
696 Build Queensbridge’s mission is to strengthen the community and prevent future conflicts by enhancing awareness, promoting health and encouraging professional advancement opportunities. The site utilizes the Cure Violence method - a public health, community-based model that aims to reduce shootings and homicides; to redirect the highest risk youth from a life of violence and to mentor them through pro-social choices; and to shift community norms to reject violence. Their team aims to heal and transform communities affected by violence through the use of credible messengers who themselves have lived a life of violence – but have chosen a different path.
