My life used to involve representing people who are forever defined by the worst thing they have ever done.
This is my life now:
- Children stream out of Quality Life Center as the fire alarm blares. Because of construction of the new wing, children now have to cross the street. Teens emerge, each holding the hands of preschoolers, guiding them safely to the fire drill area.
- An 8-year old boy has a birthday coming up. He has a variety of disorders which make it difficult for him to make friends - this distresses his mom. A group of Q teens find out, and create birthday cards to shower on him to make his day special.
- A class at the Q is introduced to chess. Something sparks in a 6-year old boy. He spends every spare moment learning the pieces and how they can move until he masters the game.
These are small things. But they are important. It is nice to be surrounded by positivity. Curiosity being ignited in a child, compassion, teamwork. We need more of that. Getting my hair done by preschoolers, well, that's just a bonus.
That is why I love the Q, and why I am asking you to help by donating.
