Hello friends, family, and colleagues -
PwC is proud to be a long-time partner of Summer Search, whose mission is to help young people from low-income communities develop critical life skills to unleash their potential through professional mentoring and transformative summer experiences. Throughout the years we have supported the organization through program impact grants, hosting career discovery and finacial educatoin events, skill-based volunteering, capacity building projects and more. Jean Lee and Romit Dey are proud to serve on the Board of Directors for Summer Search Seattle and Bay Area.
Due to COVID-19, Summer Search has had to provide emergency basic needs funding for their participants and families, postpone their annual fundraiser, and cancel key summer experiences. I am hoping to raise $10,000 towards the organizational goal of $650,000 so we can continue to fund programs that make a critical difference in the lives of students and their communities.
Please consider making a gift to support our students and help our team reach our $10,000 goal! Thanks to our generous Matching Challenge Pool contributors, your donation of: $500 or more will be DOUBLED, and donations of $2,500 or more will be TRIPLED.
Critical Need Now
Summer Search supports 500 young people from low-income communities in Tukwila, Kent, Renton, and Highline to become educated, thriving young adults. The devastation of the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted our low-income communities disproportionately. Our students have talent and potential, but they do not have financial resources they can redirect for unexpected needs. More than 93% of our high school students qualify for free and reduced lunch, and our families have a median household income of $28,000. A majority of our students and their families have experienced job loss, food insecurity, and threats to stable housing and and reported heightened stress and uncertainty about their futures.
With schools closed and other support systems at capacity, Summer Search is one of the few constants our young people can count on for the support they need.
To ensure their path to thriving adulthood is not permanently disrupted, Summer Search is providing low-barrier, urgent funding for groceries, utilities, and housing. To help young people process the new world around them, our team is also working harder than ever to provide in-depth mentoring with highly trained, full-time staff.
We are uniquely positioned to act in a time of crisis to ensure our young people are unstoppable in pursuing their dreams. With your help, we can support more than 500 young people and their families in South King County - and make sure their path to college education, a successful career, and thriving continues.
This is why we are asking for your support TODAY. At a time when our services are most critical AND we are fulfilling unprecedented emergency funding requests, our fundraising revenue is most at risk. The pandemic has forced us to cancel our fundraising luncheon, which typically provides more than 30% of our $2 million annual operating budget. To continue work as a trusted partner for our young people this year, it is critical that we meet our revenue goal of $650,000.
Thanks to our generous Matching Challenge contributors, all donations of $500 or more will be DOUBLED, and donations of $2,500 or more will be TRIPLED, including monthly recurring donations.
When you donate to Summer Search, you help students discover the power and resilience within themselves. Your generous support opens doors for high school students with high potential but little access to the privileges society often requires to achieve upward mobility. Our comprehensive program gives Summer Search students sustained, holistic support from high school, through post-secondary college and career pursuits and beyond so that they thrive in adulthood.
About Summer Search
Summer Search is a youth development organization creating greater equity by empowering young people from low-income backgrounds to become purpose-driven leaders who are financially stable, in a family-sustaining career and civically engaged.
At Summer Search, we believe our world is better off when everyone can discover their purpose. Yet, for too many bright young people, obstacles unfairly block their search. Every day we connect students to expansive opportunities. And we show them they possess not just the talent, but also the inner strength to carve their place in the world. Because when each of us cultivates the power and courage inside us, we become unstoppable.
