My camp story begins with a friend of mine, Jason, reaching out to me via Facebook about volunteering for North Star Reach. I wasn't sure if I should do it and had no prior experience working at a camp. Nonetheless, I felt it was a great opportunity to get out of my comfort zone. Oh wow, was I in for a SURPRISE. When we arrived at camp, I began to get a glimpse into this thing called Mooseness and Camp Magic. I became instant friends with the other volunteers and staff. Before I knew it, it felt like I knew them my entire life.
After adjusting to the sounds of nature, being a kid from Detroit that can be scary :), the day finally came...Camper Arrival Day! Part of me was excited, the other part was nervous and looking for the nearest escape. BUT I stayed and had a week that changed my life forever. It was during that week that I gain a greater appreciation for the little moments in life. I saw such resilience from so many strong kiddos. It became them teaching me more than me teaching them. By the end of the week I was crying, not because of sadness or regretting my decision. I was crying because I had to say goodbye to my other family...my second home. Now as a staff member I'm more motivated than ever to continue to provide volunteers, campers, and families, the same experience I had. I'm appreciative of the support and thankful for this community.
Thank you for considering to give to my team.
Love The Mooseness
And if you are curious, yes, I still have the Facebook message that began this life changing journey.
