For the 3rd consecutive year, Wings of America is partnering with the Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) and Harvard University to commemorate the legacy of Native distance runners and promote the aspirations of an upcoming generation of student-athletes. As part of the “Pursuit” program, Wings will select up to five (5) American Indian high school juniors to travel with the organization to Boston during “Marathon Weekend” 2019 (April 11-15).
This year, the B.A.A. has granted Wings two "charity" bibs to help raise funds for the "Pursuit" program students' trip. Wings of America's executive director, Dustin Martin, and Rising Hearts Coalition founder, Jordan Marie Daniel, will once again toe the line in Hopkinton and serve as chaperones for the students selected for the program. Please donate to this campaign to honor their committment to Native youth and help build upon the impressive legacy established by Native American distance runners.
Aside from experiencing the power and excitement of one of the world’s premier distance races, students will broaden their educational horizons with college visits, admissions counseling and networking opportunities hosted by Harvard, Northwestern University and the B.A.A.. Finally, students will volunteer during the B.A.A. Relay Challenge- a youth event for Boston area middle schoolers held the Saturday before the marathon. This trip is meant to be a catalyst for selected students to strive for greatness in their own lives and bring the positivity of the race and its champions back to their families and communities.
Here's what Dustin and Jordan are running to raise money for:
Airfare to/from Boston for Pursuit students: $3,500
Race entry fees for Pursuit students in B.A.A. 5K: $300
Meals/Food/museum entry fees for Pursuit students: $750
(Public) Transportation for Pursuit students: $150
Lodging will be generously provided by a host family in Boston's South End! Without this amazing gift, we'd have to raise A LOT more to make this trip possible.
