BENEFITING: The TEARS Foundation
EVENT DATE: December 1 - 31, 2019
Pure Barre Anchorage is proud to partner with the local non-profit organization, The TEARS Foundation! They seek to compassionately lift a financial burden from families who have lost a child by providing funds to assist with the cost of burial or cremation services. Every child’s life deserves to be honored and memorialized in accordance with the grieving parents’ wishes.
As of October 2019, the Alaska Chapter of The TEARS Foundation has supported hundreds of families through our programs. Many have received emotional support, financial assistance, and attended our annual Rock & Walk where the community and bereaved families walk and raise funds together in honor of babies.
In August 2019 they opened the Center for Child Loss in Anchorage! Creating a safe and comforting place for bereaved families, professionals and community members to receive compassionate support.
Their goal is simple; to build a caring community to help families who have lost a child on their journey toward healing. The state of Alaska’s infant death rate is 13.8% higher than the average for the lower 48 states and ranks 15th in the nation overall. There are no government funds available to support bereaved families with ongoing support to rebuild their lives, and the need is great.
Programs for financial assistance include:
Infant Funeral Assistance: For babies 20 weeks gestation to 1 year old
Jesse's Grant: Grave marker assistance for babies 20 weeks gestation to 1 year old
Charlie & Braden Project: Funeral assistance for children between 1 and 12 years old, who die from external causes (such as Suicide, Accident, or Sudden Unexplained Death of a Child)
Cali's Gift: Funeral assistance and/or Grief Counseling Support for those whose child is between 13 – 22 years old and died due to drug related causes and/or completed suicide.
