After graduating from William & Mary in December, I thought a lot about how I could extend upon my academic and work experience in a post-graduate setting aligned with my goals and values. Leaving the familiar is difficult, but I felt drawn to join the PULSE program in Pittsburgh, PA. PULSE brings recent graduates like myself together each year who similarly want to commit to a year of service and leadership with local nonprofits in the Pittsburgh community.
I got excited upon learning about the PULSE program because it presented me with an opportunity to engage in meaningful personal and professional development in the nonprofit field. During this time I will be living with other enthusiastic PULSE participants and seeing how our collective service can impact the city around us.
My hope for the year is to better understand the way nonprofits are uniquely poised in their communities to make a direct difference in the lives of others. As I dedicate myself to the mission of my nonprofit partner, I want to learn from those around me so that I am equipped to take on a long term role doing this critical and complex work. Being part of the PULSE community allows me to build relationships with nonprofit professionals, mentors, fellow recent graduates, and community members. Learning from these leaders is an invaluable part of the PULSE program and one that I am thrilled to experience in the coming year.
Part of my first task is to assemble a team of people who will support me in this work. It is important to me and the core values of the PULSE program that I am able to share my year of service with others, especially my family and friends.
I am in the process of raising a minimum of $2,500 to cover expenses for this year of service and leadership. When considering being my partner in this work, know that you will help sustain nonprofit programs and services that support Pittsburgh’s most vulnerable. Thank you for your continued investment in my life and in the life of PULSE. Your support means so much to me!
