When I graduated from Chatham University in May, I knew I was ending a chapter and beginning a new journey as a recent college graduate. While it was difficult leaving the familiarity of Chatham’s campus and the amazing friends I made along the way, I decided to join the PULSE program in Pittsburgh, PA.
PULSE cultivates a community of young servant leaders to transform Pittsburgh. They invite recent college graduates (like myself) to partner with local nonprofits for a year of service and leadership. I got excited about the PULSE program because I loved the idea of dedicating a year to a Pittsburgh non-profit. There are so many great organizations in the city that help people in so many different ways, and I can’t wait to see where I will be serving throughout the next year!
During my year with PULSE, my biggest hope is to develop and better understand my own personal sense of faith and leadership, and to figure out how I can use the skills I cultivate at PULSE in my future career! I joined PULSE partly because of the many opportunities we are given to explore our sense of purpose in the world and discover how we can use our unique abilities and passions to help other people. I am looking forward to challenging myself to live simply and figuring out ways to be smart with my money. My grandma always says that “The best things in life aren’t things” and I am excited to enjoy more of the “things” in life that don’t involve money. Finally, I am very eager to connect and bond with my housemates and non-profit colleagues, and hopefully create lifelong friendships.
Part of my first task as a PULSE participant is to assemble a team of people who will support me in this work. I realize that I can’t do this work alone, that I need others to come alongside me and partner with me.
Would you please consider supporting me in this work? I am in the process of raising a minimum of $2500 to cover expenses for this year of service and leadership. Your support will help impact the lives of Pittsburgh’s most vulnerable. Any amount, no matter how small or large will go a long way towards helping me meet this goal! You can give online at www.pulsepittsburgh.org/support. Thank you for your continued investment in my life and in the life of PULSE!
