As I prepared to graduate from Swarthmore College this past May, I began looking for opportunities for further growth and education. I applied to several programs and fellowships, and have decided to join the PULSE program in Pittsburgh, PA.
The Pittsburgh Urban Leadership Service Experience fellowship program cultivates a community of young servant leaders to transform Pittsburgh. They invite recent, college graduates (like myself) to partner with local nonprofits for a year of service and leadership. I am excited about the PULSE program because it gives me the opportunity to work with and learn from well-established professionals in the nonprofit sector.
My hope for the year is to grow from the professional development opportunities that PULSE integrates into its year-long program, as well as to gain insight into what I seek in a career. I am looking forward to integrating myself into the broader community of Pittsburgh, a vibrant city with an abundance of cultural and arts programming. I began participating in folk dance and taiko drumming in college, and hope to continue with these hobbies through involvement with Pittsburgh-based groups. I am also looking forward to cultivating community within my PULSE cohort. This cohort is made up of other recent grads with a broad range of academic backgrounds and interests, from hometowns and colleges across the country.
Part of my first task as a PULSE participant is to assemble a team of people who will support me in this endeavor. I know that I need others partnering alongside me. Would you please consider supporting me in this work? I am in the process of raising a minimum of $2500 to cover expenses for this year of service and leadership. Your support will help impact the lives of Pittsburgh’s most vulnerable citizens. Any amount, no matter how small or large, will help me in reaching my goal!
Thank you for your continued investment in my future, and for your support of the work of the PULSE program!
